Caring For Your Lawn Over the Winter
Now that fall is in full swing, many homeowners are putting their lawn equipment away for the winter. However, there are still ways to tend to your lawn during the winter that will ensure your grass is in good shape come springtime. Here are some tips on how to take care of your lawn in cold weather.
Aerate Your Yard
Because frost can seal in the soil and keep it from accessing fresh air, you should aerate your soil to make sure that it’s full of nutrients for your grass. Do this before the first frost, whenever possible.
Limit Foot Traffic
Allowing people to stomp all over your grass can do damage to your lawn, especially if the same path is trodden over and over. Encourage your family to use sidewalks and stone paths so that they’re not walking all over the lawn and killing the grass.
Remove Debris
Going around your lawn before the first snow to pick up debris ensures that you won’t have patches of dead grass once the snow melts. Pick up dog toys, sports equipment, lawn-care items, branches, and other items so that your grass isn’t smothered.
